The fifth-highest mountain in the world, Makalu (8463m) is considered one of the hardest 8000m peaks to climb because of its steep, exposed ridges. Edmund Hillary failed twice, leaving it to a French expedition to make the first ascent in 1955. Even the mighty Reinhold Messner only succeeded on his third attempt. You won’t face quite so many obstacles getting to the base camp of the mountain, although this is a challenging and difficult trek through one of the most remote and undeveloped parts of Nepal. The reward for this hardship is the chance to trek through an unspoiled Himalayan landscape far from the trappings of the modern age. En route, you will pass some epic viewpoints that will put you face to face with “the throne of the gods”, along with Baruntse (7220m), and the eastern slope of the Everest range.

Himalayan Unforgettable Adventures arranges the Dhaulagiri Circuit from September to December and from March to May.

All our guides and porters are experienced, licensed and covered by insurance.
